• Recognising RSE Contributions to Research

  The RSE-AUNZ Steering Committee is pleased to announce the Birds-of-a-Feather session at C3DIS - Metrics for Measuring the Contributions of Research Software Engineers. The goals of the session are:

• RSE-AUNZ at eResearch Australasia 2020

  An overview of RSE-AUNZ activities at eRA2020 and a call for contributions.

• RSE mini-conference at eResearch Australasia 2019

  At the last interim steering committee meeting on the 28th of May, there was agreement to host a RSE Mini-conference as an eResearch Australia 2019 pre-conference workshop.

• RSE community at C3DIS

  Collaborative Conference on Computational and Data Intensive Science (C3DIS) 2019 is on from the 6th to the 10th of May. We are asking for members of the RSE community to volunteer to help us run a Hacky Hour in the evening of Wednesday the 8th May and to also extend an invitation to the Friday all day RSE workshop.

• eResearch Australasia pre-conference workshop and BoF - Recognition for Researchers who Code

  There was plenty of discussion in the RSE pre-conference workshop Recognition and Career Development for Researchers who Code that was held at eResearch Australasia on the 16th of October. There was even more at the BoF the next day. These discussions resulted in two realisations. The first one was that while our main focus is helping researchers who code get recognised, we also need to do the same for generalists, people who bring communities together and can engage with both researchers and technical staff. The second realisation was that we are still in an embryonic phase and we need to get more people involved to get a critical mass.

• Queensland RSE Community Meeting - Recognition for Researchers who Code

  This meeting, on the 5th of October at the Queensland University of Technology, is to build awareness of the Research Software Engineer (RSE) community and to identify volunteers to help implement the practical solutions for the RSE community. Please consider attending if

• Victorian RSE Community Meeting - Recognition for Researchers who Code

  This meeting, on the 14th of August at the Parkville Campus at University of Melbourne, is to build awareness of the Research Software Engineer (RSE) community and to identify volunteers to help implement the practical solutions for the RSE community. If you are an academic/researcher who codes but are lacking recognition and metrics needed to progress your academic career; a professional software engineer working in the research space; or a system administrator who maintains research systems, you should think about joining.
